Imagine this scenario – you are relaxing on the terrace of your private home or in a living room with panoramic windows. Everything is quiet. However, from a distance of 1.5 or 2 kilometers, a strange drone might be observing your property in detail. Soundlessly. You wouldn’t even suspect it.
Sounds like a spy movie? Unfortunately, in the exclusive real estate segment, this is today’s reality. As professional drone pilots, we at the “RIGA Technology” team know perfectly well what modern technology is capable of – powerful optics and thermal cameras can see through even thin curtains. With the growing popularity of drones, our clients increasingly ask the question: how to protect your family’s privacy?
The answer is not the physical takedown of drones (which is illegal and dangerous). The answer is smart, autonomous anti-drone protection, seamlessly integrated into a unified KNX smart home system.
Why don’t traditional security methods work here?
People often think they can solve the problem by purchasing radio wave suppressors, or “jammers”. However, their use by civilians is strictly prohibited because it can block emergency services and aviation communications. The same applies to GPS signal manipulation (GPS spoofing) and drone cyber-hacking; these are all law enforcement methods and are strictly controlled. It is also forbidden to destroy a drone kinetically. Even if the drone is flying over or around your property, it still remains someone’s private property.
Moreover, human reaction time is simply too slow. By the time you physically notice the drone, find the remote control, and try to close the blinds, it will be too late – the photos will have already been taken. That is why we have created a solution that is 100% legal and operates without your involvement.
How does automatic smart home protection work?
Everything happens proactively by combining property security systems with building automation.
- Detection: Special RF (radio frequency) detectors installed on the roof or in the territory intercept the drone’s control signal even before it physically approaches the house. You also get a flight log with identification data.
- Signal processing: The information is instantly transmitted to the “brain” of the house – the KNX control unit.
- Automatic reaction: In a matter of milliseconds, the smart home autonomously lowers the security blinds, closes thick curtains, or instantly dims the smart glass.
Oskars Vanags, CEO of SIA “RIGA Technology”, explains this approach very simply: “The house takes care of your privacy even before you notice a threat from the air. Your daily routine is not interrupted. This is a completely new standard in private home security.”
How much does anti-drone protection for a private home cost?
When talking about smart home costs and high-level security, people often assume the amounts will be astronomical. However, the costs are actually very reasonable, especially when you understand how they are formed.
The price consists of two main components:
Detection equipment: A professional drone signal detector capable of reliably identifying aircraft and ignoring “false alarms” (such as a neighbor’s Wi-Fi or smartphone) costs starting from 35,000 EUR (depending on the manufacturing country’s requirements and the ability to detect homemade FPV drones).
KNX integration and programming: This is where the greatest benefit of the KNX system lies! If your home already has motorized curtains, facade blinds, or smart glass connected to the KNX network, you do not need to buy new motors or additional physical protection. The costs consist only of the sensor installation and our engineers’ work on ETS programming and the creation of automation scenarios.
The total investment budget for such a solution typically starts at approximately 40,000 EUR. This is a very reasonable amount, considering that it completely eliminates the possibility of anyone obtaining sensitive information about your family’s daily routines, property layout, or valuable possessions.
Who needs this solution?
Anti-drone protection is gradually becoming a mandatory requirement for those to whom confidentiality is not just a word. It is perfectly suited for owners of exclusive private homes and villas, public figures, strategically important companies, as well as diplomatic facilities.
We can integrate this functionality both into completely new smart home projects right at their design stage, and simply add it to your already existing, operational KNX system.
